When I was pregnant for the first time I was in pregnancy denial…big time! This head space of denial is where all first time mums end up! You think everything is going to run smoothly in the birthing room and your baby will eat and sleep like a dream. Well…it most likely won’t and that’s okay!
There are so many things people don’t tell you about when you’re pregnant because they don’t want to “frighten” you, but I think I would have liked a bit of a warning. Being a mum can be very isolating. At the beginning, you will be feeding a lot by yourself. As well as all the soothing and calming of your baby and not to mention you will be bouncing even when your not holding your baby!
For some mums, it also means giving up your job/passion for a long period of time and this can be so hard for some. This was a big one for me, I didn’t realise how much of myself I had to give up. This is why I started Mama Chic. I had to regain a sense of self and I have achieved this. I absolutely love what I do and enjoy a work life balance.
When you’re a first-time mother you also can’t put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect because guess what? No one is perfect. We all have bad days and great days. As much as your child screams or doesn’t sleep or what ever he/she is doing or not doing we have all been through it at one time or another. Breathe have a hot coffee it will pass and get better!
